Using Japanese Interior Design Ideas
Written by Charlie on October 9, 2008 – 7:19 pm -
Pick a country or period style that suits your personality and decorate your bedroom like that. It will make you feel comfortable and happy since it reflects your tastes.
If you are looking for good ideas to use in redesigning your bedroom, you can find a lot in many different sources. The first thing you should think about, is your personal tastes; this is a room you will spend a lot of time in and you want to make sure it reflects you and that you will be comfortable in it.
You can start to do this be reviewing the various schools of interior design and deciding which one of them most reflects your philosophy of beauty and comfort. The main ones are Modern, Oriental, Gothic, Roman, Greek and Egyptian.
Oriental and Modern design have a great deal in common. The Japanese style of design is marked by straight, simple lines and natural materials, such as cloth and wood, very similar to modern (although modern will also include plastic). But this minimalist look is common to both of them, and smooth lines and lack of ornamentation will be the key. There are other oriental styles that may include some fancier lines, however.
The Gothic theme makes wide use of black and includes eccentric touches such as gargoyles and exotic curtains and such. IF you want to make a statement in your bedroom, this style will surely do it.
The Greek and Roman themes also have a lot in common, since it is said that Roman design is based on the Greek but also improves upon it. Large columns and open vistas mark this style, so it is really only possible if you have a large bedroom space.
If gold is your color, Egyptian is your theme. The liberal use of lush colors such as gold and fabrics such as silk and tapestry will make a room look like Cleopatra’s court. For an added touch, use stone tablets with hieroglyphics or depictions of ancient Egyptian gods.
Picking style or period theme is a good way to get started on the best way to re-design you bedroom. There are many other ways to go, but if one of these reflects your personality, go for it!

Gothic Clothing for Fun
Written by Charlie on October 6, 2008 – 10:35 pm -
Are you ready to put a different type of style into your life? If you are into punk gothic clothing is going to be the type of clothing that will fit your style. for the cuts, the off the shoulder looks, and the inclusion of leather in your clothing, gothic clothing is going to set your style, set you out from the crowd, and put you in the scene you want to be in.
Gothic clothing uses a look that includes what some people feel is a sexy, sleek, and wild look. Not everyone is going to dress in a suit and tie for work, and if you are not in that group, consider gothic clothing to set your mood for fun all day and all night long. Gothic clothing is based on the use of tight corsets, tight clothing, leathers, the look of chains and an overall style that is different from many other types of designers and styles that are available.
Most gothic clothing is not available in retail stores offline. You can occasionally find a gothic clothing store offline, but in larger cities. Prices for gothic clothing are going to be a bit higher, as you are purchasing a specialty item, one that will take you back in time to a point where costumes where a daily habit, and the costumes wear worn by those who had the most power in that time, and the most wisdom.
Gothic clothing often times represents a more animal looking side to life. The animal prints of the leopard and the tiger are often times very popular with the gothic clothing you can find for sale online. The tiger prints in bold yellow, black, and sometimes in white with black are popular as gifts, for wearing, and to set your wardrobe out among the rest. Leopard prints in red, white, black and sometimes in yellow are exciting additions for those who want to have the gothic clothing feel extended in their life.
Gothic clothing purchases can be completed online. You can find many gothic clothing retailers online, from different countries that are going to add that something special to your wardrobe, and that others in your friendly circle are not going to have. You can mix and match gothic clothing to include pants, shirts, shorts, tops, tanks, and neckwear or head gear that is fabulous compared to the boring type of suits and outfits that are available through other retailers. The gothic clothing lines are exciting, sexy, and sultry, setting your own style to be one that will make you a step above the rest in your crowd. If you are in the rock scene, in the punk scene or if you are a partygoer, you are going to love what you can find online in the gothic clothing sections.

The Gothic Magnificence - St. Stephen\’s Cathedral
Written by Charlie on October 3, 2008 – 3:52 pm -
The Stephansdom as the St Stephen’s Cathedral is known is an island of Gothic splendor in a sea of Baroque and 19th Century architecture. Almost main part of church dates back to the 14th, 15th, and 16th Centuries. However, the Romanesque “Giant’s Doorway” which is situated on the west façade dates back to the early 1200s. The Hochturm or south tower, at 450 feet, has almost the same height as that of a 45-story office building; the marvel is that it was built more than 600 years ago, half a millennium before the invention of the modern skyscraper.
The red-marble sepulcher of Emperor Frederick III, carved by Niclas Gerhaert van Leyden; the pulpit by Anton Pilgram; the Altarpiece of Wiener Neustadt, a Gothic winged altar from 1447 - and the tomb of Prince Eugene of Savoy, dating from 1754 all this form s the Cathedral.
The pulpit, in the middle of the nave, bears the images of four Latin Church fathers: Ambrose, Jerome, Gregory and Augustine all having full personality. The railing is covered in interesting symbols - the lizards are animals of light, the battle toads are animals of darkness, and the “Dog of the Lord” at the top protects the sermon from their influence. Wheels with three parts representing the Trinity roll up. Wheels with four parts representing the four seasons as well as mortal or worldly life roll down.
The Pummerin bell is one of the largest bells in the world, and was cast from a cannon captured from the Turks in 1683. It rings out over the city on New Year’s Eve. One can take the elevator up the north tower to see the bell and get a view of the Vienna Woods.
The south tower is named Alter Steffl, “Old Steve,” and was built between 1359 and 1433. The sweeping view of the city from the 450-foot-high tower is worth the 343 steps or elevator ride.
The “O5″ engraved into the stone outside the cathedral’s enormous front door has important historical significance. The “5″ stands for the fifth letter of the alphabet, which added to the “O” makes OE, the abbreviation for Österreich (Austria). It was a covert sign of resistance to the Nazi annexation of Austria.
Stephen’s Cathedral defines the city centre and has been the heart of Vienna for centuries. It is one of the most famous Viennese sights and was built in 1147 AD. For a long time it was recognized as highest building in Europe.
There are many myths are about Vienna’s famous landmark. One of them is the weird indentation of the wall at the left side of the main entrance, which was used to measure the size of a loaf of bread by discontented customers. Further there is the story of the Servants’ Madonna, which once saved an innocent girl from being arrested for stealing. Further inside at the cathedral’s apse one can admire the so-called “Zahnwehherrgott” or Lord of tooth ache, an ‘ecce homo’ statue once situated at the graveyard outside the cathedral. All in all - St Stephen’s Cathedral is a place worth visiting.

The Capital City of Styria
Written by Charlie on October 1, 2008 – 11:23 pm -
Graz is the capital city of Styria, a region in the southeast corner of Austria. The city is located in between rolling hills, to the north, east and west, only open to the south.
It has some 250,000 inhabitants, and it supports machine factories, thriving breweries, trading companies and service industries. The Graz Fair is an important commercial and industrial event in south eastern Europe. Graz’s three universities, theatre, opera house, museums, concert halls, and art galleries comprise of its cultural centre.
The city was rebuilt in the 19th century, and most of the old town survived allied bombing at the end of World War II, when it was part of Nazi Germany. In May of 1945 the city surrendered to Soviet Forces, but in the years following the war has prospered as a educational centre and cultural of Austria and today it is one of the countrys most beautiful cities.
Take a walk at night through the city of Graz and you will see, that most of the places of interest are perfectly light and some of them look even better or at least more romantic during the night. It is perfectly safe to move around in the city at night
The major shopping streets, including the wide, elegant Herrengasse, branching off from the main square in the centre of town. The second major shopping street is the also elegant and car-free Sporgasse, which is lined with shops and side walk cafes. In the heart of the old city, Sporgasse runs along the River Mur’s Left Bank. The major item to buy here is Syrian clothing in its famous grey and green hues. Hofbackerei Edegger Tax is a traditional confectionary and bakery in Hofgasse, the old part of Graz and the royal court also used to get pastries and bread made by them.
A significant land mark of the city is the romantic Uhrturm, a tower still using its original mechanism from 1712 and a traditional location for locals first kiss.
The old town was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1999 due to the harmonically co-existence of typical buildings from different epochs and in different architectural styles. Situated in a cultural border land between Central Europe, Italy and the Balkan States, Graz absorbed various influences from the neighbouring regions and received its exceptional townscape. The old town consists of over 1000 buildings, their age ranging from Gothic to Contemporary. This old town is in fact on the site of the Roman fort that was built in the 1st century to defend the northern frontier.

Traveling around the world one can visit a lot of beautiful places, for example, Rome, Milan, and Naples. All of them are very popular and outstanding, but still Rome deserves much attention. It is the most wonderful part of Italy. This city is unique to some extant, as it has small country within the city- Vatican, with the head of the Pope. One more reason of Rome being a wonderful city is a great number of parks and lakes. Moreover, Rome is famous for its theatre, Opera Houses and Galleries, where one can see a lot of masterpieces, like works of Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo. Another beautiful place is the Sistine Chapel with its amazing art on the ceiling.
One more interesting city which is worth seeing is Naples. It is famous for its beautiful scenery and great number of medieval castles. Everybody, who visits Naples, always admires its beauty, its ocean with wonderful natural landscapes and Art galleries, for example Castel Sant’Elmo. Besides, in the city there are some gothic cathedrals, which can amaze with their beauty. The city possesses its many fashion industries.
Milan is the exact city for those who like skiing and spending lazy days. From the Alps, one can see beautiful landscape and site of the whole city. The most wonderful time to travel through Italy is spring, as one can enjoy calm and practically desert beaches and beautiful spring landscapes.

Written by Charlie on September 27, 2008 – 9:42 pm -
When you decide to visit Spain, Barcelona should be on the top of the list of the cities worth visiting. It’s the most unusual and the least Spanish city in the whole country. Barcelona is one of the largest cities in Spain and one of the main tourist destinations. It’s also the capital of Catalonia, a province with its own language and big ambitions.
Millions of visitors Barcelona receives every year, are attracted by the original architecture and live attitude. The conditions for tourist in the whole travel infrastructure are perfect. Barcelona has more than 300 hotels, like Madrid, but the capital of the Spain is twice as big as Barcelona. When you think of Barcelona architectural attractions Antonio Gaudi buildings are the first things that come to mind. The best known is his unfinished structure - Sagrada Familia (the Holy Family) cathedral. This masterpiece of the architectural thought has became the symbol of the city. Its image adorns the postcards, photos and travel guides devoted to Barcelona. Barcelona has small Gaudi museum - in Apartment and office block - La Pedrera, - also of his work. His style is unmistakable and is noted for clear, bright colors and the untraditional lines. Old city with almost two thousand years history, Barcelona survived its rises and falls. After Roman and later Arabian invasions, in Middle Ages Barcelona became one of the most significant cities of the Mediterranean. If you like to sink into the medieval atmosthere, you can visit the houses of the nobility, which still adorn the centre of Barcelona.
Don’t forget shopping when you come to Barcelona. Its most famous shopping street La Rambla (also called Las Ramblas) has the numerous amount of the prestigious boutiques and the small shops with the works of the local craftsmen. Barcelona has gained its glory not only by its architecture, but by the people born in the city too. Pablo Picasso, Juan Miro, Jose Carreras, Montserrat Caballe and the above-mentioned Antonio Gaudi - are the greatest Barcelona citizens. One of the unique attractions in Barcelona is Barcelona Aquarium. It’s the biggest aquarium in Europe with more than 300 species of the sea fauna. 80-meters tunnel goes under the huge oceanarium with sharks and the rare fishes. Barcelona is also one of the Spanish sport centers. Its stadium “Nou Camp” (or “Camp Nou”) is considered to be one of the best stadiums in the country, and Barcelona clubs (football and basketball) are always among the leaders of the Spanish championships. Barcelona warm climate makes the city a very popular destination for summer trips and beach holidays. The most of the beaches are situated around the Olympic Village, built in 1992 for the Olympic games. The only problem is that they are often overcrowded.
